Hair Quality
Remy: Remy hair is hair that has the cuticle fully intact. Although it has been processed and/or dyed, the hair has been kept in its root-to-tip alignment throughout. This means that all the individual strands of hair have cuticles facing in the same direction, just like your own hair, and so the remy hair will not tangle. It will behave the same way as your hair does as it is maintained in its original state. Remy hair is refered to as cuticle-correct hair as the cuticle is intact.
Non Remy: Non remy hair is poor quality hair. The hair has been highly processed in large mixed batches. The hair is not kept in its original root-to-tip position. Through over-processing, the cuticle has been partially removed, and is left spikey along the hair shaft. This leads to issues with tangling as the spikey part-cuticles are in opposite directions, allowing them to cause friction and serious problems with tangling.
The difference, Remy or Non Remy?: Although it is very easy to tell the difference between Remy and Non Remy hair a week after you have your hair extensions applied, it is not easy to tell the difference before they are applied. The hair suppliers spray all hair with silicone spray when they package it, and so all hair is quite silky and smooth while still in the packaging. Once you wash the hair for the first time, this is when you'll know whether you have purchased remy or non-remy hair. The Remy hair behaves like your hair does. The Non Remy is like a doll's hair. It will tangle up and be very hard to style.
Price difference: I guarantee that I use Remy hair - which I am willing to provide evidence of. Non-remy hair is very cheap. I advise you that wherever you decide to go for hair extensions, that you ask for a hair sample and for evidence of the quality of hair used. Take the sample and wash it a few times, and treat it with the products you usually use - you will be able to be sure of the quality, and that you are paying the right price for your hair extensions.
Note: I am happy to use any hair that you want to use. I can show you the two types of hair that I use, which are suitable for the vast majority of clients. I can source alternative hair for you or use hair that you have bought.
Hair length
18" : Eighteen inch hair is the standard length for hair extensions. If you are a regular height of about 5'4" then this length will fall to below your bra strap.
22" : Twenty-two inch hair is very long! I mean very long. It will fall to the top of your bum.
30" : Hair is available at various lengths, but this is longest hair that I can source. At this length, you will be sitting on the hair, no matter what height you are.
Note: As the standard length is 18" and extra long length is 22", these are the lengths I have in my stock. However, I am very happy to use a different length of hair, if you want. Obviously I can cut and finish the hairdo for you.
Hair Texture
Indian hair: Indian hair has a texture that is suitable for blending with all hair types. It is thick hair, while still being smooth. It is the most versatile hair - it can hold a wave, it can take curls and it is silky smooth when styled straight. If you leave Indian Remy hair to dry naturally, it will dry with a gentle natural kink. You can style this hair easily and it really blends so well.
European hair: European hair is more expensive, because of how it is sourced. However, it is similar in quality to the Indian Remy I use. It dries straight and it is not as willing to be styled into a wavy or curly 'do. It is not as thick as Indian hair but would suit you if you have fine, silky straight hair.
Your hair
I will check your scalp and hair prior to applying the extensions. Extensions are suitable for everyone with healthy hair growth and even for those mild hair loss.
You need to have sufficient hair to cover the bonds at the root. The very simple way to test whether you are suitable to have hair extensions, is to pull your hair back into a ponytail. If you can make even the tiniest pony then are suitable for hair extensions.
For hair extensions to look natural, your own hair has to blend in to the new hair. This is most easily achieved if your own hairstyle is layered or choppy or thinned towards the tip. I can finish the hairstyle and layer your hair into the hair extensions, if needed.
However, if you have a bob, or a very straight line hair cut, it may be difficult to blend the extensions into your hair. If you are happy for me to layer your hair into the new hair extensions, then we can achieve a natural result.
